Interviewing at ML

Our interview process is thorough – for your benefit as well as ours.

Our success depends upon relatively small teams of smart, highly motivated people developing winning strategies and executing on them – collaboratively and consistently.

Talent is what drives the firm and we invest a tremendous amount of time and resources in developing it. We do not hire large classes of associates right out of school, planning for a significant percentage to drop out after one, two, or three years. For us, every hire counts. We want our people to succeed and to become the best lawyers they can be – as soon as their abilities and hard work will get them there. And we want them committed to the firm's ongoing success.

We know that diversity makes us stronger so the team we are building is diverse and inclusive.

If we've invited you to interview with us, we believe that you have the intellectual capacity and the work ethic to do the type of work we do. The real questions then are whether you want to work in the way we do and whether you can do so effectively. It's about fit. We recognize that we are not right for everyone and, conversely, everyone who may have the credentials and experience we value may not be right for us.

Successful candidates interview with team members in each of our offices with the goal of meeting every partner and associate. This tends to take more time than the process of interviewing with other firms but it is well worth it. We want you to have a solid understanding of our culture and our work, and we want to get to know you as well as we can.

Because the process is not limited to a half day of interviews and pleasantries over lunch, both you and we will have the time to think through whether the fit is truly right. We encourage you to ask thoughtful questions and to be candid in your discussions with us. We will be candid with you in return. That undoubtedly increases the likelihood of the best possible decision – by you and by us.

We understand that for the legal profession, our hiring process is rather extraordinary – but so are our people.
