Trials
We represent plaintiffs and defendants before judges and juries in state and federal courts throughout the country.
We are widely praised by clients and colleagues for our courtroom skill and strategy. Legal 500 says we are “excellent in substance and presentation” with “real trial prowess.” Chambers and Partners notes the team “understands what makes a case winnable and pursues that strategy relentlessly.”
Our trial teams are different from those of most other firms because we’ve done this a lot.
Many of our partners cut their teeth in the courtroom as prosecutors, and several teach trial advocacy at leading law schools and CLE programs. Associates are trial-ready too. They attend offsite trial advocacy training at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy shortly after joining the firm, and we routinely create opportunities for them to get on their feet in court.
Clear, commonsense, memorable narratives are our hallmark. We use cutting-edge technology to conduct jury research, develop trial themes, and prepare witness examination outlines. And, recognizing the importance of non-verbal communication, we use carefully crafted, impactful graphics.
Our approach to trial, itself, is highly disciplined. We use detailed project management plans, communicate constantly, and operate from trial sites run by veteran paralegals that allow us to work most effectively and efficiently. Lawdragon profiled this approach in a feature on our work in a high-profile trial in the Bay Area.
While clients often hire us at the outset of a case, we also are frequently hired after a matter has progressed significantly and it’s clear to a client or counsel that the case may be tried. We’ve achieved outstanding results when appearing shortly before trial in cases that have been pending for years.
